Guest Network Access

Available to: Students, Faculty & Staff
Guests of university faculty, staff, and students can self-register for Internet access over Mason’s wireless network. Guest accounts are active for a period of seven days from first use and are supported on three concurrently connected devices. Account information is emailed directly to guests via email with the option to also be sent via text.
The guest network allows only limited access to Mason’s network and Internet resources. It allows access to web services, authenticated email services, and IPSec VPNs. The university offers the service of basic Guest network access and has no guarantee of service quality. Guests are recommended to use eduroam if they are a federation member and to use their institution’s home VPN service for improved accessibility.
All users of the George Mason University network must adhere to University Policy Number 1301: Responsible Use of Computing.
How to Get this Service
Guests can perform self-service registration through a captive portal once connected to the MASON wireless network. The captive portal is activated when a guest opens a web browser. As part of registration, the authentication system will assign a username and password. These credentials are active for seven days and are required for network access for the duration of the account. Guests must re-register when their account expires. Guests can connect to the wired network via active jacks in the residence halls, classrooms, and public areas around campus.

- On your device, select MASON as your wireless network
- Go to your web browser and enter itservices.gmu.edu
- The self-registration portal will appear
- Click on Create an Account and enter your information to complete the self-registration
There is no charge for this service.
This service is available 24/7, excluding planned outages, normal maintenance windows, and unavoidable events. Maintenance windows are Sundays from 7 to 11 a.m. but may be extended to 2 p.m., if needed. If maintenance is required outside of these hours, it will be announced on the Planned Outages web page.
