Public Internet Address on Mason Public Internet and Serve Zone

Service Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) can assign a Public Internet Address (server IP address) to departments to host servers that provide services or content to computers outside the Mason network.

In addition, research-specific networks, called Serve Zones, are available for departments that wish to control their IP space and will not store sensitive data on their computers.

Requests for a “serve” IP address must be approved by the head of the department and the IT Security Office.

For individual off-campus access to a system, ITS can provide Virtual Private Network access.

How to Get this Service

Select one of the links below that best describes your needs. Upon clicking a link, you will be taken to an online request form. You will be prompted to login using your Patriot Pass before being able to complete the form.

 

To request a server IP address, complete a Public Internet Host Request form.

To request a Serve Zone, complete a Serve Zone Request form.

For multiple machines administered by the same System Administrator, complete both the Public Internet Host Request form and the Multiple System Information Spreadsheet.

To request a VPN connection, complete a Staff/Faculty VPN Request form.

There is no charge for this service.

Availability

This service is available 24/7, excluding planned outages, normal maintenance windows, and unavoidable events. Maintenance windows are Sundays from 7 to 11 a.m. but may be extended to 2 p.m., if needed. If maintenance is required outside of these hours, it will be announced on the Planned Outages web page.
