Residence halls are provided with on-campus basic cable service which provides more than 100 channels of programming. University Townhouses on Chain Bridge Road are provided cable service through Cox Cable.
Optional premium services such as HBO or Showtime are available for a small additional charge. University Townhouse residents should contact Cox Cable to arrange for premium services.
Students are required to provide their own television sets. All channels are sent over the cable system unencrypted in "clear QAM" format which can be received by most digital TV sets without requiring a cable box in the room. If your TV is not digital, a converter box will be needed. We recommend the iView 200STB.
Housing Administration is responsible for providing television sets in residence hall common areas.
Departments are responsible for requesting access to cable TV and to programmable channels in their spaces. Departments are also responsible for providing any converter devices that may be required to enable their televisions to work with Mason's digital cable service.
A closed circuit cable television system is provided on campus for programming by Mason departments for entertainment and informational purposes.
Access is limited to students living in the residence halls and to university departments in university buildings on the Fairfax Campus.
All users of George Mason University cable television services must adhere to University Policy Number 1106: On-Campus Cable Television Channel Allocation and Operation.
