Office 365 OneDrive

Service Summary

OneDrive for Business (OneDrive) is a service of Office 365 (the university's email and calendar system) and provides for 1TB of cloud-based storage. OneDrive uses Office 365 to store Mason-related files in the cloud making it easy to collaborate from anywhere and from multiple devices. It is fully supported by the ITS Support Center and can be accessed using your Mason credentials (Mason NetID and Patriot Pass password) via the login at MasonLive.gmu.edu for students or Office365.gmu.edu for faculty and staff.

Data stored within OneDrive is not backed up by George Mason University. Account holders are responsible for backing up their own data and preserving copies of important files.

This service is intended for Mason-related public use data only. The university Data Stewardship Policy defines data classified for public use. Users are responsible for understanding and complying with this policy. For more information about data usage and classifications, reference the following:

Users of OneDrive are responsible for all activity on their accounts, including password resets and abuse, and must adhere to University Policy Number 1301: Responsible Use of Computing.

How to Get this Service

OneDrive accounts are automatically created at the time of email and calendar account creation.

There is no charge for this service.

Availability

This service is available 24/7, excluding planned outages, normal maintenance windows, and unavoidable events. Maintenance windows are Sundays from 7 to 11 a.m. but may be extended to 2 p.m., if needed. If maintenance is required outside of these hours, it will be announced on the Planned Outages web page.

Additional Information

Microsoft is currently reworking the OneDrive Sync Client.  At this time, ITS does NOT support use of the current Sync Client due to potential for data loss.  ITS intends to be able to evaluate and test the updated sync client, but for now, use of the desktop sync client is strictly at the user's own risk.
