Service SummaryInformation Technology Services provides generic email accounts for university departments, organizations, and clubs. These accounts require a sponsor who assumes responsibility for all activity on the account, including password resets and abuse.
Students cannot sponsor generic email accounts.
All messages received in Office 365 are scanned by IronPort anti-spam software. For information about managing spam filters and quarantines go to the IronPort Spam Quarantine: Overview web page. The IT Security Office provides resources, updates, and alerts for security issues that affect e-mail accounts and messages.
All users of the George Mason University network must adhere to University Policy Number 1301: Responsible Use of Computing.
How to Get this Service
To establish a new generic email account, the faculty/staff sponsor must submit a Generic Email Account Request form.

There is no charge for this service.
This service is available 24/7, excluding planned outages, normal maintenance windows, and unavoidable events. Maintenance windows are Sundays from 7 to 11 a.m. but may be extended to 2 p.m., if needed. If maintenance is required outside of these hours, it will be announced on the Planned Outages web page.

Requests for new generic e-mail accounts or changes to existing accounts are generally processed within five business days of receipt of the request.
