Email Anti-Spam (IronPort)

Also known as: Anti-Spam Filter (IronPort); Spam Quarantine and Filter (IronPort); IronPort (Email Anti-Spam)
Available to: Students, Faculty & Staff

Service Summary

The IronPort Anti-Spam filter examines the content, construction, and senders of all incoming messages to Mason email accounts to eliminate known and emerging mail threats, including malicious content and mass-produced, unsolicited bulk email (spam).

The IronPort Spam Quarantine holds malicious and suspected spam messages addressed to you so that you can verify whether or not they are indeed spam. You can use the quarantine page to:

  • Read messages
  • Release messages and deliver them to your inbox
  • Delete messages
  • Search messages

Quarantined messages are automatically deleted after an amount of time determined by the e-mail administrator, so you do not need to take any action. Detailed reports about your messages in quarantine are e-mailed regularly from the IronPort Anti-Spam filter.

You can create safelists to ensure that messages from trusted senders are not scanned with the IronPort system, and you can use blocklists to ensure that all messages from particular senders are not delivered to your mailbox.

Full details about working with IronPort are available at IronPort Spam Quarantine: Overview.

All users of the George Mason University network must adhere to University Policy Number 1301: Responsible Use of Computing.
